Master Duel Bans Called by the Grave, Unlimits Havnis

The Master Duel banlist team threw a massive curveball at the player base. With the dust barely settled from the World Championship tournament, Konami announced a new Forbidden and Limited list update dropping on September 3, 2026. The biggest shocker is the complete ban of Called by the Grave. Banning the premier counter to hand traps while Maxx "C" and Droll & Lock Bird are running rampant is a terrifying prospect. Duelists are left with fewer ways to stop turn-stopping hand traps, leaving Crossout Designator to do some incredibly heavy lifting on the ladder.
To make things even wilder, Tearlaments Havnis is jumping straight from limited to unlimited. Even with Tearlaments Merrli still safely locked in the forbidden vault, giving Tearlament players three copies of their best turn-zero engine is going to warp the meta. Having multiple copies of Havnis in hand significantly boosts the deck's second-turn consistency, ensuring the archetype continues to haunt competitive rooms. Meanwhile, the Dracotail engine is catching a double slap. Both Dracotail Mululu and Ketu Dracotail are being semi-limited to check their oppressive presence.
If you are mourning your shiny alternate artwork copies of Called by the Grave, there is a silver lining. Konami is offering an Exchange Ticket for dismantling the alt-art version, allowing you to swap it for a different chase card. Additionally, the new selection pack Kaiser on the Stage is set to release alongside the banlist on September 3. It will introduce Clown Crew Biancaviso, Phara the Primordial Goddess, and a stunning extended-art Cyber End Dragon, the Final Strike Dragon. It is a bizarre time to be a Master Duel grinder, but at least the ladder is about to look completely different.
