Immortal Phoenix Reveals First DIVINE Extra Deck Boss

Konami officially pulled back the curtain on the upcoming booster set Immortal Phoenix, scheduled to hit Official Tournament Stores on January 27, 2027, ahead of its wide retail launch on January 29, 2027. Packing 10 Secret Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, and extended art Starlight Rares at $4.49 per pack, the core set centers on a complete mechanical overhaul of Marik's classic Battle City lineup. The headline reveal is The Winged Dragon of Ra, Sun God of Darkness, marking the very first DIVINE Divine-Beast monster to ever occupy the Extra Deck. Built with blanket effect immunity and a Quick Effect that discards theme cards to wipe opposing monsters, it instantly redefines how God card strategies interact with board building.
The set also modernizes Marik's iconic tribute removal in the form of Lava Golem, Steelcage of the Sun God. Using two face-up monsters from anywhere on the board as Fusion Material, it functions as an Extra Deck out to established endboards without forcing players to hard-draw classic tribute monsters. Fueling this setup is The Immortal Sun God, a Quick-Play Spell that cycles boss monsters onto the field and retrieves itself from the graveyard by discarding cards from hand. Whenever it hits the graveyard during a turn, it triggers an End Phase recursion wave to salvage dedicated retrains like Helpoemer, Chanter of the Sun God, Makyura, Destructor of the Sun God, Gil Garth, Exterminator of the Sun God, and Viser Des Shock, Tormentor of the Sun God.
Beyond the Marik wave, the set includes standalone tech like Chomplush, an effect monster that gains protection while Normal Monsters are present and revives them to bounce opposing cards. While older tribute engines often fell apart due to heavy card disadvantage, giving Ra an untouchable Quick Effect boss and direct material removal straight from the Extra Deck gives the theme real mechanical teeth going into early 2027 testing.
