Instant Fusion Unbanned as Master Duel Prepares for Harmonia
If you thought Konami was going to let us catch our breath after the June 30 banlist took a chainsaw to Kewl Tune decks, think again. The ink is barely dry on the limits to Kewl Tune Rotary and the semi-limits hitting Kewl Tune Reco and Kewl Tune Mix, but Konami has already dropped a massive announcement for July 9. The headline of the upcoming Master Duel update is the shocking return of Instant Fusion, which is sliding off the Forbidden list straight to Limited. For a game that still has Tearlaments Kitkallos legal and breathing, releasing one of the most infamously sacky extenders in Yu-Gi-Oh! history back into the wild is a choice that will either rejuvenate rogue strategies or turn the ladder into a toxic swamp.
Of course, the unbanning of Instant Fusion isn't happening in a vacuum. It drops alongside the brand-new Selection Pack: Starved for Destruction, and the synergy here is blatant. The pack marks the debut of Fydraulis Harmonia, a monstrous Synchro support card that lets you show it from your hand, reveal up to five Synchros in your Extra Deck, and then Special Summon itself while sending those Synchros to the Graveyard to clear your opponent's board. Duelists are already cooking up ridiculous combinations, using Harmonia to dump utility targets like Despian Luluwalilith to summon Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous directly from the deck, or sending Herald of the Arc Light to search ritual pieces for Mikanko.
While the addition of Teller of Fairy Tails and new Constellar support will satisfy legacy players, the competitive landscape is about to undergo a massive shift. The ladder has been dominated by Kewl Tune's oppressive boards for months, but with their main engine pieces clipped and Instant Fusion back to enable everything from Predaplant plays to easy Rank 4 setups, the meta is wide open. Prepare your hand traps, dust off your graveyard disruption, and get ready for a chaotic July 9.
