Genesys Hits Chaos Origins with Preemptive Points Tax
Konami dropped a preemptive point bomb on the Genesys format before most of us even had a chance to sleeve up our new cardboard. On June 22, 2026, the official event coverage blog published its latest list update to get out ahead of the premiere weekend. They wanted to give players an idea of what to trade for, and pre-emptively kneecap any hyper-dominant strategies before the North American Genesys Championship in Minneapolis. If you were hoping to slide some of these powerhouse legacy cards into your deck for free, Konami had other plans.
The biggest eye-opener here is the respect Konami has for the incoming cards from Chaos Origins. Mind Shuffle got hit with a massive 40-point initial cost, making it an incredibly expensive choice for anyone trying to build around it. Black Chaos and Celtic Mystic both debuted at a hefty 20 points, showing that they expect Yugi's classic arsenal to be an absolute menace if left unchecked. Over on the Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery side of the ledger, the new Tellarknight and Constellar support did not escape scrutiny either. Constellar Castor and Tellarknight Cygnian both received a 6-point tax, while their big boss monster, Tellarknight Constellar Delteros, was slapped with 10 points.
It is clear Konami is trying to avoid another Ryzeal situation where a theme hyper-dominates the format out of the gate. While some players might complain about pre-hitting unreleased cards, it is a necessary evil for a format like Genesys that thrives on deck-building variety. It forces you to actually weigh the cost of these splashy new tools instead of just jamming them into every list. Whether these points are enough to keep the old-school Sacred Beasts and Phantom Knights strategies in check remains to be seen, but you will have to build much smarter if you are taking them to Brussels or Minneapolis next week.
