Rhongomyniad Taxed to 100 in Huge Genesys Points Update

We all knew the taxman was coming after the Genesys Championships wrapped up at the World Championship Qualifiers. Between North America, Europe, and South America, the meta of this 100-point alternate format was laid bare, and it wasn’t exactly diverse. The thunderous roar of Blitzclique dominated the weekend, culminating in Hanko Chow taking the North American crown with a build centering around Thunderclap Monk. Over in Central America, a Tellarknight build used Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad to drag opponents kicking and screaming back to the Dark Ages. On July 31, 2026, Konami finally dropped the hammer with the August points update, and the landscape of the format has changed overnight.
Let’s talk about the ban by another name. Pushing Rhongomyniad from 68 points to a clean 100 points is the developer's way of saying "get this card out of our game". Since the default deck budget in Genesys is exactly 100 points, playing the notorious Xyz monster now means you cannot play a single other pointed card in your entire list. It is a peaceful retirement for a card that has spent years terrorizing every format it touches. Meanwhile, the Blitzclique engine took hits across the board to curb its cheap efficiency. Whisker Blitzclique goes from zero to 6 points, Blitzclique Breakaway is up to 2 points, and the problematic Thunderclap Monk is spiked to 9 points. You can still play the deck, but you will actually have to think about your ratios instead of jamming every good Thunder monster into a pile.
It wasn't all bad news for degenerate strategies. The biggest surprise of the update is Fairy Tail - Snow, which saw its massive 85-point tax slashed down to a meager 10 points. Apparently, the balance team decided that Snow on parole isn't as scary when the rest of the Fairy Tail engine is getting checked. To balance her return, Fairy Tail - Wiccat and Fairy Tail Ball both leaped from zero to 10 points. If you want to abuse the graveyard-banishing fairy, you will have to pay a premium on her support. Elsewhere, Therion "King" Regulus rose to 33 points to discourage its generic splashability in DoomZ variants. The message is clear: the era of free, high-impact engines is officially over.
