Konami Slaughters Dark Magician in Genesys Update

The Genesys deck-building community is in a frenzy today. Konami dropped the official points update for the upcoming Magnificent Monsters set on August 25, 2026, and players are already tearing the numbers apart. In a format where you only get 100 points to build your entire 70-card list, every single point cost assigned to these new anime-inspired retrains is a make-or-break decision. Most of the chatter is focused on the spell cards, and let us be honest: Konami did Dark Magician dirty.
Assigning a whopping 30 points to Dark Magical Curtain right out of the gate is a brutal preemptive strike. If you want to run a full playset, that is 90% of your total allowance gone before you even touch your Extra Deck. It effectively renders the new Dark Magician strategy dead on arrival for serious competitive play. On the flip side of the coin, Synchron fans are eating incredibly well. Assigning a measly 5 points to Synchro Emergency is criminally underpointed. Even without Junk Speeder or Crimson Dragon in the format, players are already mapping out highly efficient boards that barely dent their 100-point budget, especially since Starjunk Synchron is a mere 1 point.
The most hilarious part of this update is Konami's apparent fear of Malefic decks. Assigning 8 points to Malefic Paradigm Shift is a baffling decision for a card that requires you to run multiple brick monsters in your Main Deck. It shows the developers are still deeply paranoid about any card that supports backrow-heavy, trap-based structures. Meanwhile, Stardust Dragon - Victim Sanctuary sitting at 15 points feels slightly overtuned, but it won't stop players from trying to abuse it. The community will be playtesting these numbers all week, and the results are going to dictate whether Synchrons completely take over the format.
