Exodia Wins Official LEGO Ideas Challenge

If you told me ten years ago I’d be writing about plastic building blocks instead of another tier-zero format shift, I would have laughed you out of the local card shop. Yet here we are. LEGO Ideas officially crowned the winner of its “It’s Time to Duel!” fan design contest on September 15, 2026, and the winning concept is a massive triumph. Step_on_a_Brick's detailed 1,913-piece build, titled The Heart of the Cards – Exodia, took the crown and is now headed to the official LEGO design table for an expected 2027 release.
The build itself is a direct trip down memory lane, recreating Yugi’s iconic pilot-episode victory against Seto Kaiba. It features Exodia the Forbidden One bursting out behind massive brick-built versions of the five forbidden cards, with a blocky Yami Yugi standing at the forefront. Personally, I was rooting for the gorgeous Blue-Eyes White Dragon display by Brian b59124, mostly because Kaiba's dragons look phenomenal on a shelf. But it is hard to argue with the sheer nostalgia of the Forbidden One. Getting a physical Yugi minifigure out of this deal is the real prize, especially since licensing agreements usually make anime-to-LEGO crossovers a nightmare.
As with all LEGO Ideas winners, the retail model will go through a rigorous redesign process by LEGO's in-house team. The final piece count and price point remain under wraps, and the actual product might look a little different from the original submission. We have seen how these ideas get scaled down or beefed up, but the core appeal remains intact. Collectors have spent years settling for bootlegs and unofficial custom figures, so having Konami sign off on an official brick set is a massive win for the community. Make sure you do not step on one of Exodia's limbs in the middle of the night; that does more damage than his actual instant-win effect.
