Genesys 1st Anniversary Update Reshapes Format Points

One year after Genesys debuted at YCS Anaheim, Konami handed down the Genesys BIG 1st Anniversary Update on October 5, 2026, dropping hundreds of point adjustments across the alternate format. Unlike Advanced, where problem cards rot on the list between banlist cycles, Genesys polices power levels through deckbuilding point budgets under a rigid 100-point ceiling. The headline hit belongs to Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi, which skyrocketed from zero points up to 51. That single tax guts standalone Mitsurugi engines. At 51 points, running even a single copy devours over half of a duelist's point budget and locks out every other high-impact staple on the chart.
Aggressive combo starters took collateral damage while long-suffering rogue strategies received substantial relief. A Hero Lives surged from 8 points to 30, pricing out cheap combo starts for HERO variants. Artmage Non-Finito jumped from 15 to 33 points to rein in Artmage board states, and Battlin' Boxer King Dempsey picked up a 23-point cost after previously sitting at zero. On the other side of the ledger, Atlantean Dragoons fell from 40 points to 13, opening up build paths for Water combo piles. Blackwing pilots caught a break as Blackwing - Boreastorm the Wicked Wind dropped from 15 to zero points, while Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite plummeted from 13 to a single point. Even Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos was cleared down to zero points.
Boss monster mathematics also shifted significantly. Baronne de Fleur, previously priced at an astronomical 80 points that made her practically unplayable, dropped to 50 points. That still commands half of an entire list, but dedicated Synchro builds can now realistically field her alongside low-cost engines. With staple hand trap taxes easing slightly after Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring dropped from 20 to 18 points, the mathematical trade-offs for YCS Houston's Friday Genesys Main Event look completely overhauled.
