Beyond the Brave Prerelease Prizing Revealed at NA WCQ

If you are watching the North America World Championship Qualifier livestream, you probably caught Konami slipping some major announcements between rounds. We finally have a date for the Beyond the Brave prerelease cycle. It is going to be a nostalgic throwback for Joey Wheeler fans. The Beyond the Brave Premiere! events are officially slated for October 2nd to 4th, giving us our first real taste of the upcoming booster set. The promo of choice is none other than Dark Time Wizard, a Secret Rare that looks spectacular but will likely split opinion on its competitive worth.
The real prize on everyone's mind is the Premiere! playmat, which features the artwork of Red-Eyes Black Dragon Exceed. It is a gorgeous Level 9 Fusion monster that serves as the centerpiece for this weirdly luck-based coin-flip strategy. I know some of you are going to write this deck off as table-top casual trash, but there is something deeply satisfying about risking a coin flip on Dark Time Wizard to either blow up your opponent's board or comfortably transition into a 3400 ATK behemoth that is completely immune to activated monster and Spell effects. It is a lore card through and through, but the playmat itself is going to be a hot commodity on the secondary market.
If Joey Wheeler's antics are not your style, Konami also sneaked in the announcement for the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2026 Celebration Event running from August 29th to September 13th. The big draw here is the chance to secure Japanese-print promo versions of Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and the classic Polymerization featuring gorgeous Ukiyo-e style artwork. It is a nice collector's piece to grab, even if it does nothing to help you win your next local tournament.
