We just wrapped up the South America World Championship Qualifier 2026 in São Paulo, Brazil, and to the surprise of absolutely nobody who has been grinding the ranked ladder, Kewl Tune completely hijacked the tournament. While the deck's chokehold on the meta is impressive, the real story out of the 462-player bracket is the pilot who took it all the way. Ecuador's own Juan Sebastian Andrade Castro has cemented his status as a certified legend, adding a South American Championship title to a trophy case that already includes his iconic YCS Buenos Aires 2017 win and a 2016 UDS championship. Talk about longevity.

Andrade's winning list is a masterclass in modern Synchro deck building. He packed three copies of Fydraulis Harmonia and Mulcharmy Fuwalos to punish opponents who tried to overextend. The core engine relied on the usual suspects like Kewl Tune Cue, Kewl Tune Rotary, and Kewl Tune Reco to constantly recycle resources and draw into his massive handtrap lineup. What really set his build apart, though, was his aggressive utility package in the Main Deck. Running a full line of Super Polymerization alongside targets like The Dragon that Devours the Dogma in the Extra Deck gave him the perfect out to a meta currently obsessed with building massive, fragile boards.

The Top 8 was a bloodbath, showing a format highly centralized around Synchro spam. Alongside Andrade, semi-finalists Kanaan Asfour Al Jaubri of Venezuela and Leonardo Bittencourt of Brazil also rode Kewl Tune into the late rounds. In the finals, Andrade faced Argentina's Franco Persano, who piloted the aggressive Mitsurugi ritual strategy. Despite Persano's ability to pressure fields, Andrade's precise routing and handtrap depth proved insurmountable, sealing the match and punching his ticket to the World Championship in Tokyo.
